#BeingBlackAndMuslim Is The Hashtag Bringing Light To An Ignored Identity

via WordPress http://ift.tt/2l8DyFi

A powerful hashtag is shining a light on what it means to be at the intersection of black and Muslim identity.

#BeingBlackAndMuslimwas started in February 2014 on Twitter by the Muslim Anti-Racism Collaborative (MuslimARC), which encouraged users to share their reflections on identity, history, politics and culture as black Muslims.

On Tuesday, MuslimARC launched the conversation for the fourth year in a row and the insights about what it means to be black and Muslim in Trumps America are especially poignant.

Twitter users shared observations on the lack of visibility in the media, and being seen as less Muslim because of their blackness.
