As you’re reading this,
Today is the day, after a hectic and weird first full week in the White House, that The Donald is set to have his official first phone call with Putin, and it’s not just the Russian strong-arm dictator, either — Trump is set to talk to the Japanese Prime Minister Shinz Abe, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande, and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
But it’s Putin — who Trump has spoken very fondly about — that’ll take the most interest from the media and American citizens today.
At the heart of it is sanctions against Russia, related to their invasion of the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine; Trump has not said whether he will keep the sanctions, and there is a fear he could lift them altogether to appease his buddy Putin.
